"I desire the Spirit of God to know and understand myself,
that I might be able to overcome whatever of tradition or
nature that would not tend to my exaltation in the eternal
worlds. I desire a fruitful, active mind, that I may be able to comprehend the designs of God, when revealed through His servants without doubting."

    • She married a SWITZER. She is buried in the MILLIKIN - NEWLAND family plot in grave 6 going south looking east at the main monument. She and her son Lee were on the 1920 census living in Colchester, McDonough county, Illinois. He was age 16 and she was age 36 in 1920 she being born in Missouri. She worked as an inspector in a Overall factory The Macomb Daily Journal, Monday, May 19, 1947, page 2, column 1: New Windsor Woman Killed At Bushnell ... Mrs. Pearl Switzer, 65, of New Windsor was instantly killed and her husband, D. H. Switzer, 70, of New Windsor was critically injured when their 1938 Chevrolet sedan crashed headon with a 1946 International truck driven by John H. McNeil of 1110 East Washington street, Macomb, at 3 p. m. Saturday on the state highway a half mile northeast of the Bushnell city limits. Mrs. Switzer was a former resident of Colchester. She and her husband were enroute to Plymouth to visit her brother-in-law John Payne. Otto "Doc" Zimmerman of Macomb, a passenger in the truck with McNeil, suffered a broken arm. McNeil was unhurt. McNeil was driving the truck for its owner, John McKinney, Macomb Rending company manager. Crash On Curve. McNeil told Coroner Jake Davis that the vehicles crashed at the first curve northeast of Bushnell during a heavy rainstorm. He said that he was on his own side of the center line of the pavement, going northeast and preparing to turn with the curve to the north when the southbound Switzer car, instead of turning to the southwest, went straight ahead at the curve and crashed into the truck. McNeil estimated the speed of his truck at 30 miles and hour and that of the car at 50 miles an hour. The coroner said the vehicles were badly wrecked and wedged together on the east, or McNeil's side, of the slab. The damage centered around the right front ends of both vehicles. The front wheels from the truck were torn loose and thrown into the ditch. The truck was smashed about the right fender, hood, and frame. The right corner of the car was smashed and torn into a crumpled mass of wreckage that was thrown back against Mrs. Switzer, who was riding in the front seat with her husband. Mrs. Switzer's right leg was almost severed at the thigh where the metal of the car panel was mashed down almost to the seat. She received crushing injuries when her head was thrown through the windshield. May Not Live. Switzer's condition today was listed as so critical that he may not survive. He was taken to the Avon Hospital by ambulance shortly after the accident. He has never regained consciousness and his injuries are listed as a skull fracture, brain injury and broken right wrist. Coroner David said that the inquest has been postponed indefinitely, pending the outcome of Switzer's injuries. He empanelled the following jurors for the inquest: Joseph Maxwell, Robert Rawls, Harry Lovell, Martin Luck, C. Ross, Milt Sherwood. State police were called to the accident scene to clear the wreckage and direct traffic. The coroner was called a few minutes later after Mrs. Switzer had been removed from the wreckage. Mrs. Switzer lived at Colchester for several years prior to about 30 years ago. (1917) She was married to 1902 to LeRoy Campbell, who died in 1907. She was married to Switzer in 1931. She has no living children, brothers, and sisters. A son, Lee, and an infant son are deceased. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Ella Smith, 526 East Jackson street, Macomb. Funeral services for Mrs. Switzer will be held Tuesday at 1 p. m. at the Presbyterian church at new Windsor, and graveside services at the Mount Auburn cemetery at Colchester at 4 p. m. Tuesday. She is buried in the far southwest corner of the Millikin - Newland family site. the next lot , going south is her 1st husband and children's grave site, Clarence L. Campbell with her two sons, Lee and Ralph Waldo. HDG 2005
