So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

    • Anderson, Mary Audentia Smith. ANCESTRY AND POSTERITY OF JOSEPH SMITH AND EMMA HALE. Independence, Missouri: Herald Publishing House, 1929, 1958. [FHL SPECIAL 929.273 Sm51am] Information provided by Pamela Ann Beienburg Grandy states that Joseph Alma McCallum married another woman by the name of Caroline. He may have died in Texas. After school, he began working as an eletrician. He fought in the Spanish-American War. He played a clarinet which "went to war" with him. In 1908 when his wife was expecting, Joseph moved his family to a homestead near Alamagordo, New Mexico while he remained in Kansas City, Missouri to earn a living for the family. However, the homestead was given up before it became "permanent" and the family moved back to Missouri. In 1912 - 1913 Joseph built airplanes (like the Wright Bros.) and barnstormed them. About 1917, two wealthy McCallum uncles funded him in a small silver mine operation in Pinos Altos and Silver City, New Mexico, so Joseph and family moved from the Chicago area to New Mexico to mine for silver. After four years and no silver had been found, they moved to Silver City where Joseph opened "McCallum's Appliance Co." From Silver City, he eventually moved to El Paso, Texas. Joseph conceived and made the first toy commonly alled a "yo-yo". He called his a "go-come". He patented it bud didn't market it, unfortunately. Robert Bruce McCallum has what is alleged to be Joseph's first model. The fighting in the Spanish-American war was fought in this manner, according to what has been told to Robert Bruce McCallum: The men on each side would sleep, wake up, prepare and eat breakfast then go to the trenches and start shooting one another. This continued until darkness when they had dinner and went to sleep. "My dad used to tell me this story", said his grandson. Alma McCallum 3d Missouri Infantry - Lamoni, Iowa. Taken from The Independant Patriot, Oct. 20. 1898 Lamoni, Iowa. Alma McCallum, a soldier boy of the 3d Missouri Infantry, encamped near Independence, Missouric came home on furlough Thursday and returned Sunday. He belongs to the regimmental band." AND also in The Independant Patriot, Oct. 20, 1898 Lamoni, Iowa: Thursday Alma McCallum returned to his regiment near Independence, Missouri from which he expects to be mustered out soon."
