He arrived in the Greenbrier County before the year 1777 and may have gone there with other family members, leaving his family in Maryland untilhe became established. His son Adam Perry was born 1780 in Maryland....source Mary Blakenship Swift and Daniel Perry listed in James Henerson's militia district in Greenbrier Co Va in 1782. Daniel and John Perry Sr and Jr. were listed as residents of Monroe of 1799...source Morton's History of Monroe County In 1777 Swift Perry Jr. was on of the signers of a petition by land owners, to the govenor of Virgina.
