  Deacon Thomas Kinne was the son of THOMAS KINNE (KINNEY), SR. and ELIZABETH KNIGHT. He married MARTHA COX Nov. 10, 1701/2 at Salem, Mass. They were the parents of 10 sons and six daughters. In 1708, he owned the John Martin place in Salem and in 1714 he was thirty seven years old and a weaver. In 1715, he sold his land in Salem and moved to Preston (now Griswold), Conn. where his brother, Joseph, had already moved. When he sold his land, he signed the deed "Thomas Kinne" and publicly announced that his name would spelled Kinne from then on. He bought a 150 acre farm south of the Pachaug River which joined the land of his brother Joseph. Thomas & Martha joined the First Congregarional Church on April 12, 1716 by letter. Later, he was appointed to oversee the framing of the building of the Second Congregational Church of Preston where he served as the first deacon. The Kinne Cemetery may have been on the land he purchased. According to "History and genealogy of a branch of the family of Kinne" by Emerson Kinne, 1881, his tombstone is on the banks of the Tackany River in Griswold. The will of of Thomas Kinne of Preston in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut in New England was writen July 3, 1753 (Tuesday)... "I give & recommend my soul to the Hands of God....I give and bequeath unto Eight of my Loving Sons herinafter Named Two Thousand Pounds to be paid unto them in Silver Money....or in Bills of Public Credit... to my Loving Son Jeremiah Two Hundred and fifty Pounds..." He named Jeremiah, James, Stephen, Aaron, Amos, Moses, Gideon, and Nathan each to receive 250 pounds and his wearing apparel, cattle, horses, harnesses, & house furniture to be equally divided among them. He bequeathed to his three living daughters, Louis (Lois), Hulda, & Phoebe each one Spanish Mill Dollar a piece or the value thereof in other current silver money, and to the children of my ancestor, MARTHA (KINNE) SKINNER (deceased), he gave six shillings each. His son, Thomas Kinne was to have all of his farm where he now lives and all the buildings thereon, his wood lot of about 12 acres lying in Preston, his loomswarping (threads for weaving on the loom), beaver (felted wool) and quill (bobbin). Thomas was appointed his sole executor. His daughters, Keziah and Jerusha, as well as son, Timothy (twin to Jerusha) were deceased at the time of the writing of his will.
