So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

    • BURIAL Larkin sunset Gardens,

OBIT: Lawrence was born in Los Angeles, California December 11, 1922 to Lawrence Booth Smith and Tressie La Dean Hartzog. Surrounded by his family he returned to his Heavenly Father and to the waiting arms of his loving wife, Edna, September 7, 2007. He was a strong and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and the patriarch of our family. Proud of his family and to be the great great-grandson of Samuel Harrison Bailey Smith and the great great-nephew of the Prophet Joseph Smith. A kind and loving man and always a gentleman. He taught everyone to love and live by the motto "keep your hearts free from hate, your minds free from worry, live simple, give much, fill your life with love, scatter sunshine, forget self and think of others." He was a good man with a good heart and a hero to all of his family. He leaves behind daughters, Lawral (Dick) Bunker, Lynda (Richard) Logan, Jeannie (Cregg) Ringwood, Birdie (Todd) Davis, Tressie Jones; sons, Lawrence Smith and Samuel Smith; sisters, Maxine Barton, Rae Lucille Nordell, and Emma La Dean Hale; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Burr (Diane) Clayton; sister-in-law, Audrey (Elmo) Maness. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna; daughter, Kathy; brother, Fletcher Joseph Jenkins, Jr. "Sonny"; sister, Flora Mae Jenkins. He was so proud to say that his posterity was 85 strong. He joined the Air Force to fight in World War II where he earned his pilot license. He went AWOL to marry the love of his life, Edna Clayton, and returned days later to be thrown in the brig to await transfer to Germany. Leaving his new bride, he flew to Germany where he was transferred to the Army Infantry and became a machine gunner. The pride of his life was fighting for his country and the people he loved. God saw you were getting tired; and you had fought a courageous fight. So he put his arms around you and he whispered "come to me, tonight." A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands are at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us "God only takes the Best." "White Lightening!" Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11th, 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 E. 10600 S, Sandy, where a visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 10th from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Tuesday. Interment, in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
