    • Caleb Chappell (George), born at New London 7 October 1671, died as "Lieut." at Lebanon on 29 March 1733 and was buried in the Exeter Cemetery, aged 62. He married at Norwich, 4 June 1694, Ruth Royce, who was born there in April 1669 and died at Lebanon in December 1768, aged 99, daughter of Jonathan and Deborah (Caulkins) Royce.

      Caleb had settled in Lebanon before January 1708/1709 when he sold his half-interest in his father's New London homestead to his brother George Chappell. Caleb or his son of the same name was an original proprietor of Litchfield, Connecticut, in 1719, but did not settle there. On 19 October 1732, Caleb Chappell of Lebanon sold his rights in New London common lands to Samuel Edgecombe. Caleb's will at Lebanon, dated 14 March 1732/1733 and proven next 9 April, gave his wife Ruth movable estate and "my Negro man Peter," and named sons-in-law John Strong and Samuel Gilett, sons Caleb, Jonathan, Joshua, Noah, and Jabez, and "my three daughters Mary, Abijah, and Debrah." Sone Caleb was named executor; Aaron Clark, John Williams, and Susanna Clark witnessed.

      i Abigail Chappell, born 19 April 1695; died at Lebanon on 16 Juy 1724; married there, 3 May 1722, John Corbit who married (2) Experience Thomas and had three children with her recorded there from 1726 to 1735.

      ii Caleb Chappell, born 9 March 1696/1697; died at Lebanon as "Ensign Caleb" on 28 May 1776, aged 79; and buried in the Execter Cemetery. He married at Lebanon, 6 December 1721, Elizabeth Hutchinson, born ca. 1701, died at Lebanon on 5 January 1785, aged 84, possibley the widow of Jonathan Hutchinson. their son Caleb was at Sharon, Connecticut in 1745 and son Amos settled there in 1760.

      iii Jonathan Chappell, born 20 March 1699; married at Hebron, 12 November 1723, Ruth Hutchinson, born at Northampton, Massachusetts, USA in January 1695, daughter of Judah Hutchinson (Ralph) and his wife Mary Bridgman. In 1730, Ruth Chappel was among those admitted to full communion at the Goshen Church in Lebanon, with a note added at a later date: "to Litchfield.

      iv Mary Chappell, born 25 October 1700; living 14 March 1732/1733 (her father's will). She married at Lebanon or Colchester, 30 January 1717/1718, as his first wife Samuel Gillett, born at Windsor 1 October 1790, who died 8 October 1771, son of Josiah Gillett (Jonathan) and his wife Joanna Taintor of Windsor and Colchester. He married (2) Abigail_____, with whom he had three children.

      vi Abijah Chappell, born 19 October 1704; married at Lebanon, 5 February 1723/1724, John Strong, born at Windsor 17 June, 1701, died at Colchester 7 April 1783, aged 81, son of Josiah Strong (John) and his wife Joanna Gillett.

      vii Noah Chappell, born 13 December 1706; died before 1 July 1743 when his son Noah chose Mr. Caleb Chappel of Lebanon as guardian. In March 1745/1746, Caleb similarly became guardian to Noah's sons Simeon and Andrew. Noah married at Hebron, 16 October 1726, Abigail Howard

      viii Deborah Chappell, born 19 September 1711; married 9 November 1732, as his second wife, Joseph Gillett "of Litchfield" born at Windsor 3 March 1694/1695, brother of Samuel (No iv. above). Joseph Gillett "from Colchester" was an original proprietor of Litchfield in 1719.
