- obert Fitz Maldred; came of age 1195; feudal Lord Raby, Commissioner to collect an aid (irregular tax) in Northumberland 1230, served in Henry III's campaign against Welsh Aug 1241. [Burke's Peerage]
-------------------------------
A Saxon, Lord of Raby, Brancepeth and Durham, who on March 17, 1227 gave 200 marks for his release on succession to her inheritance in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Durham. He held several civil offices and had military service. His death date is unknown but he must of been a very old man dying between June 24, 1242 and May 25, 1248 when his widow married Gilbert de Brakenberg.
Descended from Uchtred, son-in-law of Ethelred II and fourth son of Gospatrick, earl of Northumberland
--------------------------------
Robert FITZMALDRED, lord of Raby and Brancepeth, co. Durham, who, 17 March 1227, gave 200 Marks for his relief on succession to her inheritance in Yorks, Lincs, and Durham. In 1230 Robert was going overseas in the King's service; in 1235 was named a commissioner to collect an aid in Northumberland, but was superseded; was a commissioner to hold pleas in Durham in 1238, and summoned for the Welsh expedition in August 1241. The date of his death is uncertain; he must have lived to be a very old man, and died between 25 June 1242 and 26 May 1248, when his widow, Isabel de Neville, had married Gilbert DE BRAKENBERG, a Lincs tenant of the fee of Bayeux. She was dead in May 1254. [Complete Peerage IX:494, transcribed by Dave Utzinger]
