So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

    • !Email from Sean Alan Smith: Sorry for the delay. as you might understand, I've been preoccupied with the times we live in. I've also been in Ecuador since February and wasn't sure if I could provide you with the best information, but here is some general background:

Cynthia might have been Philip's first wife. He had four that I know of, my mother being the last in 1970. She was a Canadian named Nancy Prestwich who died in 1999 I think. They met in Greece, married in London, and I was born while they traveled in Africa. (in Durban, South Africa)

They split up when I was 2. My mother brought me to Canada while my father continued traveling the world. He had worked as a journalist, amongst other professions, and kept a lengthy journal of his travels during these years which I have now.

When I was five Philip came to Toronto, Canada and stayed there as I grew up. During these years he was an antique dealer. When I got older we started making trips down to the States, traveling around the East Coast. Eventually he returned to San Francisco to have some kind of retirement, and after the unexpected early death of my mother, I came down to be closer to him, since by that time he was getting quite old himself.

In his last years we continued traveling together around the Southwest, Pacific Coast and all around California. He had a lifelong restlessness that I have most certainly inherited.

During all these years he never discussed his family much, I grew up believing he was estranged from them but not with any animosity. As he told it he just went off and did his own thing. In WW2 he flew B-17s, went to Mexico on the G.I Bill and then from journalism went into public relations for what I think was called the mental hygiene department and was later granted an early retirement from that job by governor Ronald Reagan. This kicked off another round of traveling lasting several years and concluding with meeting my mother. That, at any rate, is the story I've been able to put together.

Your website was the first time I'd seen photos of anyone from my father's side of the family. I'd be interested in hearing about his brothers and sister in particular. I only know that he butted heads with his eldest brother who was his political opposite, and that the middle brother was a school principal of some kind who used gardening as an educational tool. Lots of gaps!

I still live in San Francisco (Philip, finding that prices had gone up slightly over the past 50 years, spent the rest of his life in Vallejo) and for about 15 years I've worked on the ferry boats there. Since it's a seasonal job I travel in the winters and have used this arrangement to visit close to 100 countries. My apologies for this lengthy email, if you have other questions please let me know. Maybe I should add that I have no sisters or brothers and no children.

If you get a moment I'd be glad to hear the details from your end, and when I'm back in the States perhaps we can plan a future meeting.

      Best wishes,

      Sean Alan Smith
