- He is on the 1860 census Chalmers township, McDonough county, Illinois 6 July page 713 #2488. George W. age 12 born in Illinois. He is also on the 1870 census with Arthur and Lucy Smith Milliken as age 22, coal miner. He is on the 1880 census with Arthur and Lucy Millikin as age 32 coal miner In the 1890 census he is boarding with Florence & Isaac Newland He is buried with his brother Clarence H. in the MILLIKIN - NEWLAND plot Lot 9 Block 3 grave 2 looking west going north. Mt. Auburn cemetery, Colchester, Illinois. He is the last one on the lot next to the Clarence Campbell plot. He was laso the first one buried in the Millikin - Newland family plot. Death certificate #1019 William D. Millikin, Single age 64 Died on the 16 January 1913 at about 10:00 a.m. The was a police officer at the time and had been a coal miner. Place of death was Colchester, McDonough county, Illinois. The place of burial was Colchester. The undertaker was Frank Williams of Colchester. He died of Lobar Pneumonia and had Lagniappe. His father was Arthur Milliken and his mother was Lucy Smith. The informant was O. J. Ruth of Colchester, Illinois The Macomb Daily Journal January 17, 1913, Page 5, column 5. DEATH RECORD Milligin George W. D. Milligin died at the residence of his sister, Mrs. I. Newland, at Colchester at 10 o'clock last evening of pneumonia, aged 64 years. The funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon; interment in the cemetery at that place. Deceased was born near Fountain Green, Hancock county, and has been a resident of Colchester since 1856. He followed mining as an occupation for a while, and was the night watchman at that place for fifteen years. He has been suffering from a complicated ailment for the past three years, and last Monday was taken sick with pneumonia, which resulted in death. He was never married. He is survived by one brother, John P., of Elvaston, Ill., and four sisters - Mrs. Sarah Nicholas, Salt Lake, Utah; Blanche, Mrs. Clara Hendle and Mrs. I. N. Newland, all of Colchester. (I want to clarify then names and places of his brother and sisters. John P. of Elvaston, Ill. is Don Carlos Smith of Elvaston, Ill; while Sarah Nicholas of Salt Lake is Sarah Nichols of Salt Lake City, Utah; Blache {is an Unknown to me}; Mrs. Clara Hendle is Clara Irene Hendel; and Mrs. I. Hendel Junior opn February 6, 2006: Clara Milliken, Robert's grandmother, told Robert "that her brother George had been a miner, then a security guard at a mine, and died of pneumonia... died as a resuly of methane "black damp" poisoning in the mines.
