So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

    • Megan Elizabeth Eckhart, 26, of Boise passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005 at her Boise, Idaho home. She was born June 11, 1979 in Salt Lake City to John Craig Thomas and Kathryn Fife Thomas. Megan spent the first years of her life in Utah and Washington, but Boise became her hometown in 1989. She attended McMillan Elementary and Lowell Scott Middle School and graduated with honors from Centennial High School in 1997. Megan went on to Brigham Young University, where she studied a year abroad and was awarded the Gordon B. Hinckley Presidential Scholarship. She earned a bachelor's degree in youth leadership and recreation management, graduating BYU with honors in 2001. Megan returned to Boise that spring and attended graduate school through the University of Idaho's satellite program. Megan married longtime friend Daniel John Eckhart on Jan. 8, 2004. Their marriage was solemnized in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple in August of that year. Megan hoped to pursue a career as a school psychologist. She worked as a youth specialist at the Hays Youth Shelter in Boise. She held simultaneous internships with the Lee Pesky Learning Center and the Boise School District when she was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2005. Despite this adversity, Megan was able to graduate her program in May of 2005, earning both a master's degree and an education specialist degree with a 4.0 grade point average. One of the great joys in Megan's life was the outdoors. She was an avid mountain biker, hiker and camper. She had many summer jobs in the open air, including rope climbing and confidence building instructor at Aspen Grove Family Camp near Sundance, Utah, and two years as sailing and canoe instructor at Camp Morrison in McCall. She was a certified lifeguard. She spent a summer on a trail crew for the Forest Service. Megan and Daniel spent many idyllic days in the sun and nights under the stars doing all the things she loved. Those who love Megan wish to express their thanks to LeAnne and St. Luke's Hospice, Dr. Forsythe and Pam at the St. Alphonsus Cancer Care Center, and all others who provided care and support. Thanks also to the Dream Foundation of California for granting Megan's wish for a last vacation with her husband to the San Juan Islands. The memories of that trip were treasured by both of them during their last days together. Megan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was privileged to serve in many and varied church callings, and was unfaltering in her love of the Savior and of those with whom she shared her life. Though she left behind many responsibilities and roles, she carried with her into eternity those she held most dear: daughter, sister, wife, dear friend to many, and true disciple of Jesus Christ. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. The Earth is a degree bleaker without Megan's earnest enthusiasm for life. Her beauty was a sign that beauty is sometimes given to those who truly deserve it, and that gentleness, purity, and love can be the achievements of each day and not only the aspiration. The scope of Megan's altruism and charity far exceeded the vessel that carried them, and though that vessel has failed, those unforgettable and unbreakable elements will never fade. Megan's compassionate touch will remain with all those who received it, and will be carried from them on to others---and others still---like a joyful contagion. Survivors include her parents Craig and Kathy Thomas; husband Daniel Eckhart; her cherished brother Nathan Richard Thomas; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her kitties, Huxley and Bailey. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Dr. William S. and Lois S. Fife, and by her paternal grandfather Robert F. Thomas. The family also wishes to express their appreciation to the Lee Pesky Learning Center for the dedication of the Megan Eckhart Memorial Parent Resource Center. Perhaps some portion of her kind and charitable spirit will remain to help those there who need it. There will be a viewing on Friday, Oct. 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at the Warm Springs LDS Chapel, 2290 Warm Springs Ave., with interment to follow.
