He was born in Kansas City, Mo. in 1926 to Laloi & Albert T. Hancock, Sr. He attended Northeast High School, Westminster College, spent two years in the Navy, earned a Bachelor degree from University of Missouri, and an MBA from University of Michigan. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was honored as Beta Man of the year. His entire business career was spent at Hoover Brothers School Supply and Equipment Company where he retired as Chairman. One of his many achievements was securing the contract for supplying all the seating for the Truman Sports Complex when it was originally built. Al served on the board of the Kansas City Chamber, a member of the Civic Council, President of the Kansas City Rotary Club, President of the National School Supply and Equipment Association, Chairman of the Independence Land Clearance and Redevelopment Authority, vice chairman of the Truman Statue Committee, chairman of Eastern Jackson County United Way and served on the board of Blue Cross Blue Shield. Al also served on the Research Medical Center Board for 20 years, serving two years as Chairman. Having served on the Research Medical Center Foundation Board since its inception he was recently proud that he along with others were able to keep the Foundation a separate entity when the Hospital became a part of HCA. Al & Jean, his wife of 62 years, enjoyed the outdoors and the time they spent sailing, boating, hiking, and traveling all over the United States. He leaves his wife, Jean Marie Hancock, daughters, Kathy Hancock (Bill) Beresford, Mary Kay (Ron) Toles, and son, Bill (Melissa) Hancock; two grandchildren and four step grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit, Mo.
