from the "Armstrong Journal" Friday, August 9, 1895, Armstrong, Iowa
HELEN HUTCHINSON BURT (should say Hutchison)
Mrs. Ellen H. Burt, wife of Joseph Burt Sr. died at the home of her son Andrew Burt in Armstrong on Wednesday. Mrs. Burt came to this county with her husband in 1865 and has lived here ever since. The cause of her death is said to be paralysis of the brain. She had been ailing for a long time but was not seriously ill until last Friday, since which time she gradually grew worse until death came to relieve her at about noon Wednesday. She was 73 years old and leaves a husband and a number of children to mourn the loss of a loving wife and fond mother. The sympathy goes out to them in their hour of sorrow. The funeral services took place yesterday from the home of Andrew Burt and her remains were laid quietly to rest in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
(typist's note: came to Iowa in 1865, came to America in 1852)

Stories told by Glen BURT and Andy Burt, Jr.
about their Grandmother Helen Hutchison BURT
Andrew remembers his grandmother Helen Hutchison Burt as a fairly tall heavy boned lady. In his later years she had a dropsy condition and not able to walk. She sat in her rocking chair much of the time. For meals they just pulled her chair up to the table. They had to pull her from one room to the next in this chair. Not many wheel chairs in those days. When the rockers on the chair wore out they made a new set.
Helen H. wanted one of her boys to get married so she would have somebody to cook and clean.
