So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

Jenson, Andrew. 1951 Volume: 1 Page: 66-74 Pioneers and Prominent Men of Utah. Esshom, Frank. 1913 Page: 1168 Levira Annett Clark Smith was the daughter of Joseph F.'s uncle, Samuel Harrison Smith and Levira Clark. Levira was a woman of sickly constitution, who it appears was unable to bear children. When Joseph F. married Julina Lambson some 7 years later, Levira's mother convinced her daughter that Joseph F. would no longer love her since Julina would give him children. Thus persuaded, Levira declared her intentions of divorce to Pres. Brigham Young who granted her request. She then went to live with her mother. When Joseph F. returned from another mission, Pres.Young informed him of Levira's desires and that he had granted her a divorce. Joseph F. was stunned and devastated. He went home to his wife Julina and sobbed uncontrollably in her arms. He was confident that he could have convinced Levira that he did indeed love her still had he had the opportunity to talk to her. Levira later sued him in civil court for divorce on the grounds of adultery (having by then married Sarah Ellen Richards as well.) Greatly hurt, he never again had contact with Levira. Julina, however, who had loved and taken care of Levira, maintained contact. After the death of Joseph F., Julina had Levira sealed back to him to "right a wrong." Joseph F.'s son and namesake, Joseph Fielding acted as proxy. Joseph F. Smith's marriage to Levira was officially dissolved June 10, 1867. He wrote his sister, Marthat Ann a year and a half later, about the divorce document. That letter was dated Dec. 1, 1868. Julina was considered his first wife, followed by 2) Sarah Ellen Richards, 3) Julina's sister, Edna Lambson, 4) Alice Kimball and 5) Mary Taylor Schwartz.
