  Surety of the Magna Carta Sir Hugh was one of the 25 sureties of the Magna Carta of King John in 1215. See, Wikipedia, "Hugh Bigod, 3rd Earl of Norfolk" for more. In 1215 he was one of the twenty-five sureties of the Magna Carta of King John. He succeeded to his father's estates including Framlingham Castle in 1221.
