  From the book MAYFLOWER FAMILIES/Through Five Generations VOLUME 23 PART 1 John Howland: "Mercy Howland was born at Plymouth and died after 18 June 1721. She married at Barnstable 27 Apr 1704 JOSEPH HAMLIN who was born at Barnstable 20 Nov 1680 and the West Parish Church records say he died there 1 Mar 1761 in his 81st year but the West Barnstable Cemetery inscriptions say he died 27 Aug 1766 in his 86th year, son of Eleazer and Mehitable (Jenkins) Hamlin. [It appears that the second death date is correct. In the Barnstable records there are Joseph, Joseph Jr. (who married Abigail Davis in 1717), and Joseph 3rd (who was the son of this Joseph). On 3 March 1763 Joseph Hamlin was chosen constable, but Joseph Jr. was also chosen for a town office. Therefore this Joseph was alive in 1763.] He married (2) at Barnstable 5 September 1751 Hopestill (Lombard/Lumbert) Davis."
