MORAY (AFN:9G5V-C8) and Mrs. D SCOTLAND (AFN:8XJK-D8) Ref: Colonial and Revolutionary Lineages of America 973 D2ah Vol. 2 - Called Ceannmor or Canmore, succeeded to the throne of Scotland by the defeat of Macbeth in 1054. During his reign he carried on almost constant warfare, most of which was successful. He gave support to his brother-in-law, Eadgar Atheling, in fighting William the Conqueror in Northumbria. In 1072 William invaded Scotland and succeeded in a temporary conquest of the country, returning to England after Malcolm did homage. Later, in 1091, Malcolm raided Northern England, in return for which William Rufus invaded Scotland and once more Malcolm did homage. In 1092, when in Gloucester, England, he declined to do homage and returned to Scotland in anger. He invaded Northumberland in 1093, but was ambuscaded near the Castle of Alnwick and slain. Malcolm III (son of Duncan I) 1058 to 1093. Married Margaret, sister of Edgar Aetheling, the rightful king of England, from whom William the Conqueror took the throne. (Edgar was next in line after the death of Harold). So he Kennerlys are descended from the old West Saxon line of English kings prior to 1066. ----------------------------- Malcolm the Second (RIN 2518) left no issue but two daughters, named Beatrix (or Beatrice) and Doda. Beatrice, the elder daughter, got married to Crinan, (2) Lord of the Isles, and by him had a son named Duncan (RIN 2500) , the father of Malcom (RIN 91153) the Third; while Doda, the younger daughter, got married to Synel, Lord of Glammis, and by him had a son named MacBeatha o MacBeth (d. 1057). Before the accession to the throne of Scotland, of Malcolm the Third or Malcolm Ceann Mor (cean mor. Irish, large head), as he was called, on acount of the large size of his head, the lineal descent continued in this database to Duncan, who d. 1041 son of Beatrix (or Beatrice) etc. Ref: The Lineal Descent of the Royal Family of England from Irish Pedigrees; or the Origin and Stem of the Irish Nation, by John O'Hart, 5th Edition, 1892.
