So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

BIOGRAPHY: Capt. Samuel T. Smith was the ring-leader of the Boston Tea Party Revolutionary War Positions held - Committee of Safety, 1775-1785 Representative to the General Court, 1764-1770, 1772, 1777, 1778, 1781 Provincial Congress, Oct. 1774 at Concord Second Provincial Congress, Feb. 1775, Cambridge, His service extended through Lexington and Bunker Hill Battles. Chairman of Tea Committee, 1773-1774 Topsfield Committee for Correspondence, 1773 Served under General Washington; died insolvent due to worthless Continental dollar, 1785. Good acquaintances of Samuel Smith - Paul Revere, Sam Adams, John Adams. Picture - House of Samuel and Asael Smith, Topsfield, MA. Picture - Batle of Bunker (Breed's) Hill. (William Duty, Major McCley, Major Knowlton)

Samuel Smith lived in Topsfield, MA, and served in the French and Indian War (1757), later he was elected as a Select Man (City Council) records of meetings are in the Topsfield Library. During the Revolutionary War the Selectmen were required to conscript men for the War and to collect taxes for the war effort. The Selectmen levied fines against those who would not comply. Samuel married twice and had children by the first Priscilla Gould who died in 1744 a few months after giving birth of son Asael, Samuel then married his wife's cousin who was also named Priscilla Gould. In the Topsfield cemetery close to road is an skinny obelisk monument erected by the George A Smith (gGrandson) Family with Samuel listed on front and first wife of one sides and the 2nd Priscilla on the other side. Having two wives by the same name has confused numerous family historians. During Samuel's tenure as Selectman he was party to appointing where members of the church congregation would sit in church. He had military rank as Lt. and Capt.

Samual Smith II served 20 years in the Massachusetts colonial militia, 27 years in town leadership positions and was the chairman of the "Boston Tea Party" at the time America got its independence.

Samuel Smith, Jr. was the first son of Samuel and Rebecca born in 1714. He was a distinguished community leader and a promoter of the American War of Independence. He was elected to the First Provincial Congress in Massachusetts in 1774. He was remembered as a sincere friend to the liberties of his country and a strong advocate of Christian beliefs. Samuel married Priscilla Gould, who descended from one of Topsfield’s founders. Priscilla died after having 5 children, and Samuel married her cousin, also named Priscilla. His second wife didn’t have any children but she raised the children from his first wife.

Samuel Smith (b. Jan. 26, 1714; d. Nov. 14, 1785), the grandfather of Joseph Smith Sr., was remembered as a man of integrity. His obituary read: "DIED-At Topsfield [Mass.] on Monday the 14th instant, Samuel Smith, Esq., aged 72. So amiable and worthy a character as he evidently appeared, both in publick and private, will render the memory of him ever precious. For a number of years he represented the town in the General Court, where he was esteemed a man of integrity and uprightness. His usefulness among those with whom he was more immediately conversant, was eminent. He was a sincere friend to the liberties of his country, and a strenuous advocate for the doctrines of Christianity. 'The memory of the just is blessed.'(Salem, Mass., Gazette, Nov. 22, 1785, Cited in Richard L. Anderson, Joseph Smith's New England Heritage. Salt Lake City, Utah.; Deseret Book Co., 1971, pp. 90-91.)
