So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

He moved to Killingworth in 1663 as a proprietor of the new plantation which was originally called Hammonascett. As a prelude to the establishment of the new community, the General Court in March 1663 issued the following grant:

Lt. Josiah Hull, son of George Hull and Thamzen Michell was baptized November 10, 1616 at St. Bartholomew's, Crewkerne, Somerset, England. He probably came from England about 1631-32, with his parents and first settled at Dorchester, Massachusetts.

Josiah married Elizabeth Loomis on May 20, 1641 at the Congregational Church, Windsor, Connecticut. They had twelve children; Josiah 1642, John 1644, Elizabeth 1646, Mary 1648, Martha 1650, Joseph 1652, Sarah 1654, Naomi 1657, Rebecca 1659, George 1662, Thomas 1665, and Abigail 1669. All the children except the youngest were born in Windsor, Connecticut.

Josiah came to Dorchester, Massachusetts with his father in 1630. They migrated to Windsor, Connecticut in 1636/7. In 1640 he was granted a homesite 16 rods wide to the north of lots of George Hull and Joseph Loomis. He sold it and bought the Thomas Holcomb place where he lived until he migrated to Killingworth, Conn, in 1664.

In March 1663, the General Court appointed a committee to view the lands at Hammonascett and judge it fit for a plantation. Hommonascitt was originally bounded on the south by Long Island Sound, on the west by Guilford, east by Saybrook, and north by the wilderness. Killingworth was originally a piece of ground "left out" as not worth settling. . . . The committee appointed to view Hommonascett returned a writing under their hands dated June 3, 1663, wherein they expressed that "according to their best judgement, it will make a comfortable plantation for the entertainment of thirty families to subsist comfortably."

The following is from the Town Records, "The determination and conclusion for the settling of Hommonascitt, October 1663. The binding articles concluded on by the committee were as follows:
      1. That none put in above a Hundred Pound estate for the division of the land.
      2. That every man's proportion be laid out by lot.
      3. That every one puts his name for a Planter Remove himself and Family and settle within two years from the time or else to forfeit his land to the Company or Plantation.
      4. That every family so Removed and Settled abide for four years after the first two years have expired or else to lose their land, Receiving only the equitable expenses.
      5. That there shall be a convenient allotment Reserved for the Minister forever.
      6. That they shall settle an Able, Orthodox and Godly Minister free from scandal. . . .
      7. That none shall have an allotment for a greater state than he carried to the place.
      8. That there shall be thirty families on the East side of Hommonasset at the least.

In 1664 a large group moved from Windsor to Hamonarcet (now Killingworth, Connecticut). There were 21 settlers in the first group. The Act of the General Court required 30 families to settle before an act of incorporation could be granted them. They gradually increased until 1685, when the General Court incorporated them and granted them a "patent". Entered as Planters by the Committee were; Bryan Rossiter. Josias Hull, Sr., Jonas Westover, William Heydon, Edward Griswold, William Kelsey, William Barber, John Neigs, Samuel Buell and William Wellman.

Home lots were surveyed in 1663 and allotted by "drawing outs". Land allotted to Josiah Hull was on the north side of Main Street, west of Indian River, in what is now Clinton, Connecticut. The Court named the town Kenilworth in 1667 after the birthplace in England of Edward Griswold, one of the first settlers. "Homelots" were laid out on what is now main street of Clinton, Connecticut. The inhabitants of Killingworth purchased the indians title to the land from Uncas, Sachem of the Mohegans. One deed is dated January 1663, the other November 1669.

At a Town Meeting, March 29, 1675-6--It was Voted and Agreed upon that there shall be two common fortifications made in the Town for places of Defence, and it was also stated and agreed upon that those places for fortification shall be at Mr. Woodbridge's and at Andrew Ward's. It was also voted that these fortifications shall be made by equal proportion by Male Persons from 15 years of age and upwards, and further it was agreed upon that these fortifications shall be sufficiently made and finished within a fortnight's time. On April 7th, it was Voted and Agreed upon that there shall be no Land let or hired out to any Indian within the limit of this Town under the penaltie of twenty shillings forfeit for each acre so hired out.

      Josiah is mentioned several times in the town records where he lived;

-- 1659 Josiah Hull was a Deputy from Windsor, to the General Court
-- July 1659 Josiah paid 6 shillings for a seat in the Meeting House

-- 1667 Josiah is elected to serve as Deputy to the General Court from Killingsworth

Josiah died at Killingworth on November 16, 1675, in Killingworth. It is believed that Elizabeth was left a widow and later remarried.
