He is also on the 1870 census same county, Town of Tennessee as age 11. He is on the 1880 with his parents age 21 coal miner. Marriage certificate #1365 Charles A. Milliken of Colchester, McDonough county, Illinois age 22 and Miss Eliza Terrill of Colchester age 22 married 12 August 1882 by Thomas Richards Justice of the Peace. His occupation was a miner and his age next birthday is 23 Place of Birth was Colchester, McDonough county, Illinois His fathers name is Arthur Milliken and Mother's is Lucy Smith and it is his first marriage. The bride is Eliza Terrill place of birth was Colchester, and father's name was John Terrill Mother's being Elizabeth Pearson Charles and Eliza were married in Colchester on the 12 August 1882. Witnesses were R. W. Hendel and Clara Hendel Charles brother-in-law and sister. The Saints, Herald Volume 31, Page 384 1884 Died MILLIKIN - Charles Arthur Millikin was born in Colchester, Illinois, August 31st, 1858, and was in his 26th year when he died on the 12th of May, 1884, from a pistol shot fired by his own hand, the result of dejection caused by trouble and sorrow at the death of his wife. Buried from the Christian Church at Colchester, May 14th. Funeral services by Rev. A. Newland of the Methodist Church. He was a nephew of Joseph and Hyrum Smith, and a son of Lucy their youngest sister. It is my belief he was baptized into the RLDS church at age 15 with Don Carlos Smith Millikin on 21 June 1873 at Colchester by Joseph Smith III. The Macomb Journal: Thursday, May 15, 1884 Page 5, Column 5: Suicide at Colchester-------Monday evening of present week, Charles Millikin and his brother George were sitting on the porch of their home in Colchester. The hour was about nine o'clock. While thus sitting, Charles took a roll of money from his pocket and handed it to his brother. The odd proceeding led his brother to enquire what he meant; Charles replied: "Nothing, particular, I thought you might need it. "Immediately, and without speaking another word, he whipped out a revolver, placed it to the side of his head, fired the weapon, and immediately fell dead. This is all there is known indeed, all there is of the tragedy. Millikin had not before intimated to any one that he contemplated self-destruction, and he left no word of writing giving any cause why he committed the awful deed. An inquest was held on the body, conducted by Esquire Irving, but we understand no further light than the fact above stated, was thrown on the matter, as the probable motive. Charles Millikin was about 28 years of age. If not born in Colchester, came there at a very early age, as his parents are among the oldest settlers of the town. His mother was a sister of Joe Smith, the famous Mormon prophet. Deceased lost his wife a few weeks ago. Lately he has been drinking deeply, and may attribute the suicidal deed to a craze brought on by a long debauch. He was a miner, and an industrious man when not drinking. In the Saints' Herald of February 11, 1936 page 178 it was said that "having once committed a serious social wrong, was later overcome by remorse and melancholy, and some years ago went suddenly out of life by shooting himself."
