- The family is listed in the 1920 census as: Living in the 4th Ward in Keokuk, Lee county, Iowa as James S. age 34 (1886) laborer in Furniture Company at 1518 Estes Street. Then Mary F. age 39 (1881) and George H. Pitts, step-son age 1. In the 7 April 1930 census the family is still living in the same house and James is a Garage Mechanic along with his stepson. James was born in 1885 in Illinois, Mary was born in 1881 in Illinois. His father and mother were born in Illinois James S. Fluckey was a PVT in the U.S. Army. His last known address was 1701 J Street, Keokuk, Iowa 52632. His date of death was 3 Jan 1941. He is buried at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Section H, Site 1069 The Gate City and Constitution - Democrat, Keokuk, Iowa, Monday, January 6, 1941, page 2, column 3: James Fluckey, War Vet, Dies --- His death Occurs In Des Moines --- The body of the late James S. Fluckey, Keokuk World War veteran, who died in Des Moines last Friday afternoon, will be brought to Keokuk tomorrow and removed to the Schmidt Memorial home. Arrangements for the funeral services had not been completed today. Mr. Fluckey, 55, who resided at 1518 Estes street here, had been a patient at the Veteran's hospital in Des Moines for the past three months. he had resided in Keokuk since 1912 but for the past four years had been connected with various CCC camps in Iowa. During the World war he served in the 71st regiment, Battery F of the U.S. Coast Artillery and had 13 months of active service. he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was born in Shelbyville, Ill., on Oct. 25, 1885, and was married in Keokuk on May 1, 1919, to Mary F. Pitts, who survives. He is also survived by a stepson, G. H. Pitts of Keokuk; his father, Ira Fluckey of Versailles, Ill.; three sisters, Anna, Elia and Nellie, all of Beardstown, Ill., and a number of nephews and nieces. Fluckey, Keokuk war veteran who died in Des Moines late Friday evening, arrived here this afternoon and was removed to the Schmidt Memorial home where funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Geo. H. Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in the National cemetery here.
