    • Sublette township, Lee county, Illinois, History of Lee County 1881; page 249 The village of Sublette occupies parts of Secs. 9, 10, 15 and 16. The Illinois Central railroad buildings, a depot and a warehouse on the northwest corner of Sec. 15, were built in the summer of 1854. .... Jesse Hale began his store about the same time. ... "Uncle Aba" Hale came in 1856, also the families of James Colvin and Robert Ash. in 1881 there are 57 families in the village, doing a good business. The Methodist, Baptist, Congregational and Catholic churches are located here. Sublette Lodge, No. 349, A.F. and A. M. - The dispensation was issued to Thomas S. Angier, --- 1st meeting was held Jan. 31, 1860 1st meets were held in the rear of Jesse Hale's store. In 1870 the members of the lodge put up a building at the cost of $2,500. I did find J. T. & M. E.'s daughter Jessie T buried in China township plus a Mary Ann Hale buried in the same cemetery at Temperance Hill cemetery. In the 1850 census of 2 September, China township, Lee county, Illinois there is listed Jessee Hale age 58 born Pa.; Mary age 50 born New York; Julius age 29 born Pa.; Elizabeth age 28 b Pa.; Charles age 26 b Pa.; Jessee F. age 23 b Pa.; Susta ? age 21 b Pa.; Joab age 19 b Pa.; and Robert age 17 born Pa. They are on the 19 Jul 1860 census located in China township, Lee county, Illinois: Jesse Hale age 68 born New York farmer; Mary age 5 born New York; Franklin age 34 born Pennsylvania; Adeline Yates age 14 born California; David Caldwell age 10 born Ohio. Jesse, born 24 February 1792; died in northern Illinois, 2 December 1874. He married 23 July 1815, Mary McKune, born in Orange county, New York, 3 December 1799, and died 30 October 1864. They moved to Illinois 21 April 1841. They were the parents of twelve children.
