    • Of the twelve children, four died before the family left New York State. Thursday December 14, 1893 The Amboy Journal --- M. B. Morse living about 3 miles west of town died Monday aged 85 years. He was an old resident of the vicinity. Church records have him born 10 May 1804. Cemetery Stone has him born 5 May 1806. He was a teacher of a class in the Methodist Episcopal Church at Harmony, Pennsylvania. They lived a while in western New York, Chemung county, and came to Illinois in 1859, settling on a farm near Amboy, Lee county, Illinois. Biographies of the Citizens of Lee County Illinois page 334 Lee County Genealogical Society: Morse - Hale Michael Morse, son of Jonas and Lucy (Bowman) Morse, was born 5 May 1806 in Bradford, Vermont. Sources differ on his middle name, Anderson lists it as Bartlett and the Morse Genealogy is Brewster. Michael's family move from Vermont to Harmony Township, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania in the lates 1820's. Michael married Tryal Hale, the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (Lewis) Hale, in June of 1827. They moved to Chemung, New York by 1843. There were ten children born to Michael and Tryal. Emma D., the oldest, was born the 20th of May 1831 in Harmony Township. She mattied John Bosworth. Lucy Elizabeth born December of 1832 was married 22 September 1859 in Amboy, Illinoiis to Emerson W. Patten. The third child, Reuben was born 1834, Adeline in 1836, and Samuel in 1838. Bartlett, born 1840, married Marge Bennett, the daughter of Silas D and Lucinda (Case) Bennett. The Bartlett family were in Wabesha County, Minnesota. The seventh child, Alva was born in 1841. Benjamin was born in 1843, Alvira in 1847, and Viola in 1852. The first eight children were born in Harmony township, Pennsylvania. Alvira and Viola were born in Chemung County, New York. Michael looked to the West for prosperity and came to Illinois in 1856-7. His land in New York was sold in 1858 and Tryal with the children moved to Amboy, Lee County, Illinois to join her husband. Shortly after arriving, June of 1860 a terrible tornado ripped through the Amboy area. Michael was badly injured as was his daughter, Emma, and two of the younger children. Michael's wife, Tryal died of her injuires immediately. Emma died two weeks later. Micahel survived to see his 87th birthday, dying the 10th of December 1893. He lays next to Tryal in the Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy. Information form Charlotte Brennan
