    • Her first child who was Joseph died as a child. Brookfield Gazette, Brookfield, Missouri, Friday, February 24, 1893 Page 1, far right column: Obituary. Died, February 17, 1893, Charlotte Hale, wife of Judge Sila Hale. The remains were interred in Grantsville cemetery - February 18. Charlotte Doan was born in Wayne county, Ind., Nov. 12, 1822, and moved with her parents to Illinois in 1836. In 1845 she was married to Silas Hale, and with her husband moved to Linn county in 1867. At the age of sixteen she united with the M. E. Church, and lived a consistent Christian life. Mrs. Hale was a kind mother and a good neighbor, ever ready to help when help was needed, and will be greatly missed by thsoe sround her. Hospitable in her home, no needy one was ever turned from her door without help. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom with her husband survive her. She lived the allotted time of man, three score years and ten. "Blessed be those who die in the Lord; their works do follow them."
