    • Eleanor (died 1 Aug 1455), daughter of Sir John Berkeley, of Beverstone, Glos, and widow of (a) 13th/6th Earl of Arundel and (b) Sir Richard Poynings. [Burke's Peerage]
      He [John d'Arundel] married, before 1407, Eleanor, daughter of Sir John Berkeley, of Beverstone, co. Gloucester, by his 1st wife, Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir John Betteshorne, of Betteshorne in Sopley, Hants. He died 21 April 1421, and was buried at Arundel. His widow married, about 1423, Sir Richard Poynings, who was son and heir apparent of Robert, Lord Poynings, but who died v.p., 10 Jun 1429. She married 3rdly, before 8 May 1439, Walter [Hungerford], Lord Hungerford, K.G., who died 9 Aug 1449. She died 1 August 1455, and was buried at Arundel. Will [in which she styles herself "Countess of Arundel and Lady Mautravers," and speaks of her 1st husband as "John, Earl of Arundel" dated 20 July 1455, proved 23 August following.       He married, 2ndly, circa 1423, Eleanor, widow of Sir John DE ARUNDEL, de jure LORD MAUTRAVERS, and by the admission of 1433 EARL OF ARUNDEL (died 21 April 1421), and daughter of Sir John BERKELEY, of Beverstone, co. Gloucester, by his 1st wife, Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Sir John BETTESHORNE, of Betteshorne in Sopley, Hants. In October 1428 he was taking musters near Orleans, and was killed near there, 10 June 1429. His widow married, before 8 May 1439, Walter (HUNGERFORD), LORD HUNGERFORD (died 9 August 1449).       BARONY OF POYNINGS (V) 1446 ELEANOR DE POYNINGS, de jure suo jure. BARONESS POYNINGS, granddaughter and heir, being daughter and heir of the Sir Richard, was born about 1422. She married, on or before 25 June 1435, Henry DE PERCY, son and heir of Henry (DE PERCY), EARL OF NORTHUMBERLAND, by Eleanor, daughter of Ralph (NEVILLE), EARL OF WESTMORLAND, by his 2nd wife, Joan BEAUFORT, sister of the half-blood to HENRY IV. They had licence to enter into Eleanor's inheritance in November 1446. HENRY DE PERCY was summoned to Parliament, v.p. from 14 December 1446 to 26 May 1455, by writs directed Henrico de Percy, chivaler, domino de Ponynges. He succeeded his father as EARL OF NORTHUMBERLAND 22 May 1455, and was slain at the battle of Towton, 29 March 1461. Eleanor died in February 1483/4.       JOHN ARUNDEL, K.B de jure Lord Mautravers, son and heir, born at Ditton (in Stoke Pogis), Buckinhamshire 1 August 1385. He married before 1407 ELEANOR BERKELEY, daughter of John Berkeley, Knt, of Beverstone, Gloucestershire (descendant of King John), by his 2nd wife, Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of John de Betteshorne, Knt. They had two sons, John, K.B. (14th Earl of Arundel) and William K.G. (16th Earl of Arundel). In 1415 he was heir male to his cousin, Thomas Arundel, Earl of Arundel and Surrey, by which he inherited the earldoms of Arundel and Surrey. He was in the French wars in 1415. He is said by some authorities to have been summoned to Parliament as Earl of Arundel 3 Sept. 1416, though never afterwards. SIR JOHN ARUNDEL, Lord Arundel and Mautravers, died 21 April 1421, and was buried at Arundel. His widow, Eleanor married (2nd) about 1423 RICHARD POYNINGS (or PONYNGES), Knt., of Poynings, Sussex, Knight of the Shire for Sussex, son and heir apparent of Robert de Poynings, Knt., 4th Lord Poynings, by Eleanor, daughter of Reynold Grey, 3rd Lord Grey of Ruthin. SIR RICHARD POYNINGS was slain near Orleans, France 10 June 1429. He left a will dated 20 July 1428, proved 31 October 1430 (P.C.C. 14 Luffenam), directing burial before the west door in Poynings churchyard. Eleanor married (3rd) before 8 May 1439 (as his 2nd wife) WALTER HUNGERFORD, K.B., K.G., 1st Lord Hungerford, Speaker of the House of Commons, Steward of the Household to Kings Henry V and Henry VI, Lord High Treasurer (died testate 9 August 1449) She died testate (P.C.C. 3 Stokton) 1 August 1455, will directing burial with her 1st husband at Arundel.
