So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

    • His grandson, Steve, wrote: "When I was twelve years old, my grandfather Sumner asked me to go with him to the genealogy library. On our way, he bought both of us a 15 generation fold out pedigree chart. There were no computers just shelves and shelves of books of family group sheets.
"When we got to the library, we chose a work table and each spread out our large pedigree charts. We wrote our own names on our sheet as the first generation with our birth dates and our place of birth; then we wrote in the same information for our parents. We began to look for names in the books on the library shelves. In a way, it felt like we were on a treasure hunt. I don't remember my grandfather ever preaching to me. He did not even point out any of the lessons he was teaching me, but he showed me step by step how to serve the Lord in very simple ways. He had everything prepared and planned. We moved from point to point systematically. He knew what we would find when we got to the library. He listened to my ideas and used them. He taught me to keep trying when there was no apparent way to find a particular name. My grandfather trained me in the work of salvation." His life was an example of consistent dedication to his family and a love of the Savior.
