  This is part of an email from Nonie Nelson Sorensen to Judy Nelson Jardine June 2017: Thank you for your information about Grandpa Nelson and dear "Jana", Pearl Udall Nelson. Did you know we called her "Jana" because I , being the first grandchild, couldn't say "Grandma" ? But she was truly a pearl! More memories from Nonie Nelson Sorensen to Lynnette Peters by email on July 2, 2017 : I can't remember too much of Pearl (Jana) to tell you. But I had very weak arches as a child, and was taken to dear Jana several times a year for her to manipulate my feet and then strap them up with adhesive tape (as a therapist did for me at age 77 again for totally flat feet) so I could walk in my steel support brown oxfords for winter and white for summer. Incidentally, my arches were so strengthened at the "U" thru dancing that I wore foolish shoes all those years in between.. and now suffer again. Jana was very kind and sweet to me during those sessions. She always served a wonderful Christmas Breakfast to the entire family on Christmas morning, and a unique occurrence happened each Christmas morning before we left that party, in that J. Rueben Clark and his jolly daughters would arrive to honor grandfather Nelson for he had financially supported Pres. Clark when he went to D.C. to study law. I always understood that Pearl's father was the principle developer for Arizona (or maybe that was just for the Church.) She went to L.A. to study Osteopathy, and when the course was complete she moved to SLC to set up her practice...and met grandfather Nelson. I don't know the length of time for any of these events. You are probably aware of the Udall name, prominent in politics...a Sec of the Interior, and several state senators and Governors. They all descend from Pearl's family.
