So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

    • BIOGRAPHY: Thomas is mentioned in the book, ""The Family of John Perkins of Ipswich, Mass: Complete in Three Parts," which can be found online here: https://archive.org/details/familyofjohnperk00perk . There are a few obvious errors in the manuscript, especially in the first book, some of which were corrected later. According to this source, Thomas came to New England with his parents and 4 other siblings aboard the ship Lyon, leaving from Bristol, England, Dec. 1, 1630, bound for Massachusetts. The family lived in Boston for about two years, and then removed to Ipswich in 1633. John was primarily a farmer, and had several grants of land. John died in 1654, leaving behind a will. A transcribed copy of John's will can be seen on page 5. He mentions son John, son Thomas, daughter Elizabeth Sargent, daughter Mary Bradbury, daughter Lidia Bennitt, and son Jacob. His wife Judith was executor of his will.
This family history was written by George A. Perkins, I believe, over a number of years (first published in 1884) and published in more than one piece. It covers the original immigrant, John Perkins in Part I, which I believe was published first and alone, and then two more pieces were added, regarding Deacon Thomas Perkins (Part II) and Sergeant Jacob Perkins (Part III). Each part has separate pagination, which is a little confusing, and some errors made in Part I were corrected later in the other parts. This source gives the wrong birthplace for Thomas, and this incorrect birthplace has unfortunately been perpetuated on the internet. His correct birthplace was HIllmorton, Warwickshire, and a christening record for Thomas is attached below under Sources.
More recently, the book "The Great Migration Begins, 1620-1635" (Volume 3, p. 1431) which can be found on ancestry.com, lists many details of this family.
Thomas was about 11 years old when the family moved to Ipswich. About 7 years later, in 1640ish, he married Phoebe Gould. Unfortunately no record of their marriage survives. The marriage may have taken place in Ipswich. The English had not settled within the bounds of modern-day Topsfield until 1643. They originally named their settlement New Meadows. The General Court of Massachusetts renamed the place Topsfield in 1648. Topsfield was incorporated as a town in 1650.
According to page 2 of the above-mentioned book (of Section II), "At the time of the marriage...her father gave them, by 'deed of gift,' a farm of 150 acres...upon which he probably resided until July 6, 1660, when he purchased a farm of Richard Swain...and upon this farm it is probable he spent the last days of his life."
Thomas and Phebe had a large family of 9 known children. All but the oldest child were probably born in Topsfield (or what became Topsfield). Unfortunately, most do not have a surviving birth record:
      1. John - born about 1641. Died very young, leaving behind a widow and one child, Thomas, who was mentioned in Thomas' will.
      2. Phebe - born about 1644, probably in the area which became Topsfield. She also died relatively young, and her children are mentioned in her father's will of 1685.
      3. Thomas - born about 1647. He inherited a house and some land from his father.

      Biography

Deacon Thomas Perkins, son of John Perkins, born in England in 1616, probably at Newent, county Gloucester to New England. Thomas came to Boston with his parents from England in 1631 on the ship Lyon. He was 15 at the time. He remained in Boston with his family until 1633, when they all moved to Ipswich. He was made a freeman. He had a grant of land, which he sold to his brother, John Perkins, and others, and removed to New Meadows, Topsfield. He was a farmer.

He married, about 1640, Phebe Gould, born 1620, daughter of Zaccheus Gould. Her father gave them a farm of one hundred and fifty acres in the central part of Topsfield, where they resided until July 6, 1660. He bought a two hundred and twenty-seven acre farm of Richard Swain on the east road from Topsfield to Wenham, situated near the Ipswich line, adjoining the farm of Zaccheus Gould.

At Ipswich, he owned Sagamore hill, a tract of land 170 feet high, surrounded by salt marsh and having Fox Creek on the east. He traded this property with his brother John for a house and lot in town. He spent only a few years there, moving to Topsfield.

Thomas Perkins was a prominent man in both church and town. He was elected Deacon of the Topsfield Church in 1677. He was chosen as one of the Selectmen of Topsfield in 1656/57, 1675/76 and 1681/82. He died May 7, 1686. His will was dated Dec. 11, 1685.

Thomas was a farmer by occupation. His farm and homestead joined that his brother-in-law, Redington, not far from the Newburyport turnpike.
