Thomas Wetmore , the immigrant ancestor, was born in 1615 , in one of the western counties of England , according to family tradition. He came to America in 1635 , sailing from Bristol , and settled in Wethersfield, Connecticut , where in 1639-40 he was a land owner. He removed to Hartford soon afterward, and in 1649 was one of the first settlers of Massabeseck , which was incorporated as the town of Middletown, Connecticut , November 23, 1653 . He was admitted a freeman May 20, 1652 , and must have then been a member of the orthodox church and worth at least two hundred pounds. He represented Middletown in the General Assembly in 1654-55 . He died December 11, 1681 , aged sixty-six. His will was dated July 20, 1681 .
He married (first) Sarah , daughter of John and Ann (Willicke) Hall , December 11, 1645 . She died December 7, 1664-65 , and he married (second), January 3, 1667 , Mary (Platt) Atkinson , daughter of Richard Platt and widow of Luke Atkinson . She died June 11, 1669 , and he married (third) Katherine (Leete) Robards , widow, who died October 13, 1693 .
