So shall it be with my father: he shall be
called a prince over his posterity, holding
the keys of the patriarchal priesthood over the kingdom of God on earth, even the Church
of the Latter Day Saints, and he shall sit in the general assembly of patriarchs, even in
council with the Ancient of Days when he shall sit and all the patriarchs with him and shall
enjoy his right and authority under the direction of the Ancient of Days.

Origin: Different theories are offered as to the origin of the Montgomery name. Some believe it came from Monte Gomero (a lofty hill), in Italy or from Mont Gomerie in Normandy, France. Another theory traces the name back to the biblical flood to Gomer, Grandson of Noah. History: Ancient Montgomery Ancestry.... Montgomery is an ancient Norman family name of the noble family of Eglinton. The name is derived from a fief of that name in Normandy, France. The first to possess the name, who appears in record, was Roger Montgomery, who lived in Normandy around 912. Another Roger, perhaps the elder Roger's son, lived in Normandy about 1050. This Roger's eldest son also Roger, was related to William the Conqueror. Roger accompanied William to England and commanded the first body of invading army at the Battle of Hastings, 1066. He obtained great distinction under the Norman banner of France, being appointed governor of Normandy in 1066. In reward for his brave service, William bestowed on him the Earldom of Salisbury and Arundel; he also received large grants of land receiving fifty seven lordships throughout England. Later Roger attempted the conquest of Wales and gained a portion of that country, including the district called Montgomery, which was named for him. Roger's son, Arnulf, is believed to have been the father of Robert, the first Montgomery who appears in Scotland. Robert Montgomery's name appears in Scottish writs starting in 1164. He was witness in some of the earliest grants made by Walter FitzAlan, the first High Steward of Scotland, to his newly founded Abbey of Paisley and also the Abbeys of Kelson and Melrose between 1165 and 1175. He also witnessed other charters. It is believed by some that Robert received from the High Steward the manor of Eaglesham in Renfrew County The date of Robert's death is 1178 or 79. Alan Montgomery Robert's son, succeeded Robert. He witnessed several charters and appears in various writs from 1202 to 1221. Alan's son, Robert II, is next in succession. He became Sir Robert and as such witnessed two charters, about 1258. He apparently died before 1260. Robert Ii was succeeded by his son, Sir John Montgomery, who was called "of Eastwood." His son, also John, succeeded him. Later Montgomerys.....Montgomerys from Scotland and Ireland began to appear in America about the time of the American Revolution. Two of these were brothers, William and Joseph Montgomery. Of Scotch descent, they were born in Ireland. A son of William, also William, was born in 1792 and founded the Pennsylvania branch of the family. Another son of William Joseph, made his home in Virginia. Kinship to the famous General Richard Montgomery is claimed by descendants of the two brothers, as it is by ours. General Montgomery's ancestry is traced to a well-known Scottish family going back to John Montgomerie of Hessilheid. John's son was Alexander Montgomerie, who was born around 1546 and became poet laureate of Scotland. We do not know the next few generations, but General Montgomery's grandfather was also named Alexander and his father was Thomas. Both of our Montgomery families claim to be descended from Gabriel de Montgomery, a Scottish nobleman who accidently killed King Henry II of France during a tournament in 1559. However, after a very careful check, we found that a connection of either family with Gabriel de Montgomery is doubtful.
