    BIRTH:"Nine Miles from Terre Haute, Indiana" and says that he left Norton, Ohio, (which is about 30 miles or so south of Kirtland) on "7th of May, [1838] in company with father, William, Wilkins Jenkins Salisbury, William McClary and Lewis Robbins, and families. . ." Don Carlos discusses the conditions and troubles they have had getting that far and asking for financial help if possible from Joseph. In this case, it would appear it took them another month to get to the Mississippi, and to where Alvin was born on the Missouri side of the river. - Gracia Jones
